Spreading Christmas Cheer

Call it fate, call it luck, but when the JC Realty Team connected with MJ Deans - Beynham, a local foster mom, we knew that we could help make a difference. It was because of her that we were made aware that over 100 children in our area don’t have a house or family to go home to this Christmas. So what could we do to brighten their day just for a little while? Well we could make them feel special over the holiday season and spread some cheer with toys and gifts just for them. This initiative hit close to home for the JC Realty Team, as we help many families buy and sell houses everyday. We often take for granted that these families provide a safe, nurturing environment where their kids can thrive and flourish yet there are so many children that are staying in group homes, 24-hour daycares, and even hotels due to the dire need of foster families in our province. The stats are both shocking and heart breaking. So we sprung into action by creating our first Toy Drive for Foster Kids in Need.

We reached out to friends, family, clients, and colleagues hoping to reach a goal of 100 toys for 100 kids

that are currently displaced. With a massive response, the Team smashed that target for the month. Large gift bags were carefully sorted, wrapped and delivered not only to these displaced children, but we also had the opportunity to donate an additional 100 presents to children at the North Central Family Centre & Hopes Homes. Any gently used toys that were too worn were also donated to centres like the YWCA Daycare and the Carmichael Outreach Centre. JC Realty would like to send out our heart-felt thanks to those who donated money and toys to the initiative. The out-pour of generosity was incredibly heart-warming. The WE ACT Group at W.S. Hawrylak School and the Balgonie Girl Guides were also incredible at assisting with the sorting and wrapping. It was a big under-taking but when we had the chance to deliver all of the presents, we knew that the effort was worth it. The impact this little initiative had on our team was profound and humbling and we look forward to next year.
